‘DOUBLE TRUTH: REVEAL’ The exhibition project DOUBLE TRUTH: REVEAL aims to explore the theme of revealing the truth, which involves a close person – a friend, partner or family member. The exhibition presents the works of Latvian artist Elīna Vītola, who in recent years has been devoting herself to unraveling the life and legacy of her relative, while also using him as a source of inspiration for her own artistic practice. She knew that he was also an artist and disappeared during World War II. However, while searching for traces of his later life, Vītola uncovered the truth. Through this exhibition project, we explore how to exhibit, talk about and work with artworks inspired by a person who has been unmasked. At the same time, we examine how to deal with such a discovery on a personal level in general. The exhibition will present both new works inspired by the discovery of the truth, as well as works that were created earlier in connection with inspirational elements from the work and life of Vītola’s relative; these works will be presented in a new context and updated interpretations.
